Kenya issues several types of passports, each designed for different categories of travelers. 1. Ordinary Passport ( Series A,B,C)

This is the most common type of passport issued to Kenyan citizens for general travel purposes. It is valid for ten years and is used by individuals traveling for tourism, business, or personal reasons.

They come in different categories and page sizes to accommodate various travel needs:

  • A Series (34 pages),
  • B Series (50 pages), and
  • C Series (66 pages).

2. Diplomatic Passport

Diplomatic Kenyan passports are issued to Kenyan diplomats, senior government officials, and other authorized representatives traveling abroad for official duties.

  1. Validity of Diplomatic Passport: Up to ten years from the date of issue for adults, and up to five years for children. The passport is also valid for the duration of the holder’s official duties.
  2. Eligibility Confirmation: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms eligibility for these passports.
  3. Number of Pages: A diplomatic passport contains 48 pages.

3. East African Community Passport

The Kenyan East African Passport is issued by the government of Kenya to its citizens for travel within the East African Community (EAC) countries, such as Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.

It has become an important tool for Kenyans, allowing them to travel with ease and convenience within the EAC region.

4. Temporary Passport

The Kenyan Temporary Passport is a travel document issued by the Kenyan government for citizens who for special circumstances cannot travel on an ordinary passport to a foreign country.

The validity of a temporary passport : 

  • It is valid for a period of one year and can be used for both business and leisure trips. 
  • A temporary passport can be used in all countries worldwide, except for those explicitly stated in the passport where it is deemed invalid.

With this document, citizens can travel to any country that accepts it as valid identification.
