Replacing Mutilated or Damaged Kenyan Passport

A mutilated or damaged Kenyan passport is a passport that has been physically damaged or destroyed in some way. This can be due to a range of factors, including water damage, fire damage, physical damage, and other forms of mishandling.

A mutilated or damaged Kenyan passport may be difficult to use for international travel, as it will not meet the requirements set by the government of Kenya. In order to obtain a new passport, applicants must submit an application form with supporting documentation and fees.

Furthermore, they must also provide proof that the original passport was indeed mutilated or damaged before it can be replaced.

A Kenyan citizen.

A person whose Kenyan passport is damaged or mutilated. 

• Manual applications are not accepted.
• The passport application is done online on the eCitizen Portal https://www.ecitizen.go.ke
• Use your eCitizen account to apply for your own passport, applications made on behalf of others will be rejected.
• Applicants must book an appointment online and appear in person for biometrics and digital photo capture
• Must bring a copy of the same documents and the original at the time of submission.
• Processing fees are non-refundable.

• An affidavit detailing the circumstances under which the mutilation or damage occurred.
• Mutilated or damaged Passport to be replaced and its copy.
• Personal Statement explaining circumstances for the damage.
• Original and copy of the birth certificate used to issue the passport.
• Original and copy of national identity card.
• Copy of parent's national identity card or death certificate (if deceased).
• Certificate of registration or naturalization, if applicable.
• Three current passport photos.
• Service identity cards for members of the Defence Force.
• One photocopy of the recommender's / referrers  national identity card.

Getting your new passport should take at least 5-10 working days.

It may take a longer period if more information is required or your application hasn’t been filled out correctly.

1. Create an account on the eCitizen Portal https://www.ecitizen.go.ke
2. Sign in with the account you just created.
3. Once logged in to the eCitizen Portal, Click Directorate of Immigration Services (New Applications)
4. Fill in the Kenya Passport Application Form 19, Ordinary Application Type, replacement of previous passport
5. Upload scanned required documents.
6. Pay for it online, through mobile money, credit cards, debit cards or online banking
7. Print the pre-filled application form, sign and date it, then add any other documents and photographs needed and return it for processing.
8. Print 3 copies of the payment invoice receipts and accompany them together with the rest of the documents and physically submit them to the immigration offices.

• Applicant must appear in person to submit the application form to the Immigration offices or a Kenyan diplomatic mission abroad in the country of origin.
• Book an appointment for Biometric Enrolment.
• An eCitizen pre-filled passport application form and three invoices.
• Present current damaged or mutilated passport.
• Original birth certificate and national identity card and one photocopy of each required document.
