Replacing a Lost or Stolen Kenyan Passport

When a passport or travel document is lost or stolen, a person is required to report the loss or theft to the nearest police station and immigration office or if outside the country, to the nearest Kenya mission. Replace your lost, or stolen passport in just a few easy steps.

1. Who Qualifies

  • A Kenyan citizen.
  • A person whose Kenyan passport has been stolen or lost.

2. What You Need To Know Before You Apply

  • Manual applications are not accepted.
  • Processing fees are non-refundable.
  • The passport application is done online on the eCitizen Portal https://www.ecitizen.go.ke
  • Use your eCitizen account to apply for your own passport, applications made on behalf of others will be rejected.
  • Applicants must book an appointment online and appear in person for biometrics and digital photo capture
  • Must bring a copy of the same documents and the original at the time of submission.

3. What are the Requirements ?

  • A sworn affidavit of the circumstances surrounding the loss or theft.
  • A police report on the loss of the passport
  • Copy of the lost passport bio-data page if available
  • Original and copy of the birth certificate.
  • Original and copy of national identity card.
  • Copy of parent's national identity card or death certificate (if deceased)
  • Certificate of registration or naturalization, if applicable.
  • Three current passport photos.
  • Service identity cards for members of the Defence Force;
  • One photocopy of the recommender's / referrers  national identity card

5. Processing Duration

It should take at least 5-10 working days to get your new passport.

It may take a longer period if more information is required or your application hasn’t been filled out correctly.

6. How to Apply

  1. Create an account on the eCitizen Portal https://www.ecitizen.go.ke
  2. Sign in with the account you just created. 
  3. Once logged in to the eCitizen Portal, click Directorate of Immigration Services (New Applications).
  4. Fill in the Kenya passport application Form 19, and choose the ordinary application type option,lost passport.
  5. You are also required to fill the previous passport number in the form to proceed with the online application.
  6. Upload scanned required documents.
  7. Pay for it online, through mobile money, credit cards, debit cards or online banking.
  8. Print the pre-filled application form, sign and date it, then add any other documents and photographs needed and return it for processing.
  9. Print 3 copies of the payment invoice receipts and accompany them together with the rest of the documents and physically submit them to the immigration offices.

7. Submission

  • Applicant must appear in person to submit the application form to the Immigration offices or a Kenyan diplomatic mission abroad in the country of origin.
  • Book an appointment for Biometric Enrolment.
  • An eCitizen pre-filled passport application form and three invoices.
  • Present all the required documents.
  • Original birth certificate and national identity card and one photocopy of each required document.

8. For Children’s Lost Passports

Parents/guardians must appear in person with the child and provide consent, authorizing the passport issuance.
