1. Voluntary Renunciation of Kenyan Citizenship

A citizen of Kenya by birth who wishes to renounce voluntary Kenyan citizenship.

Registration is granted to any citizen who renounces his or her Kenya citizenship and is immediately required to surrender all documents identifying them as a citizen to the relevant Government agency.

Disclaimer can only be registered if:-

• The identity and place of residence of the applicant are fully verified.
• The government has given full notice to the renunciation implications of the effects of such renunciation. 
• If Kenya is at war with another country, the registration of any application made may be suspended. 
• If the application request would render the applicant stateless, the application will be refused. 
• Once registered, the person who has done so will no longer be a Kenyan citizen.
• Any citizen renouncing his Kenyan citizenship must immediately submit all documents identifying him as a citizen to the relevant government agency.

 What are the requirements?

• Printed online application form 6 (Print form after final online application)
• 2 passport photos.
• Original and copy of Kenyan Passport and Identity Card.
• Copy of passport or proof of citizenship from another country.
• Copy of checklist.

How to apply

You can now apply for Kenyan citizenship online.

You can access the Foreign Nationals Services (eFNS) portal 

Here you can find all the information you need for citizenship and application, Alien Card, Permanent Residency, Pass, or Permit.

Procedure to Apply

1. Create an account on the Foreign Nationals Services (eFNS) portal 
2. Sign in with the account you just created.
3. Once logged in to the eFNS portal, click the "Submit New Application" tab
4. Under the citizenship services category select the “Voluntary Renunciation” tab.
5. Once your request has been processed, an invoice will be generated which you can refer to by clicking "Dashboard" and then clicking the "Payments" tab.
6. If you are unable to pay using one of the online modes, print your registration form by clicking on "Dashboard" and then on the "My Applications " tab.
7. Present your application with all the requirements at the Immigration office at Nairobi for payments and processing or to the Kenya Overseas Mission in the country of origin.
8. You shall receive automatic notifications via email and on your online account about the progress of your application.

Important point to note

• The application and Registration fee is non-refundable.
• Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
• Submit the completed application and all documents on the checklist to the Immigration headquarter in Nairobi or the Kenya Overseas Mission in the country of origin.

   2. Voluntary Renunciation of Citizenship of Another Country.

Citizenship is granted to foreign nationals who register as Kenyan citizens.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER

A foreign national applying for registration as a citizen of Kenya must indicate in the application whether he intends to renounce citizenship of the other country.

• If a foreign national intends to renounce citizenship of the other country, within 90 days of registration as a Kenyan citizen, proof of renunciation of citizenship must be submitted of the other country to the Immigration offices.
• A person without proof of renunciation of the other country is deemed to have dual citizenship.
• The government may refuse to register the application if it is made during a time of war where Kenya may be at war with the country mentioned in the application or if in the opinion his, that is against public order.
