1. Emergency Travel Document

The Kenyan Emergency Travel Document is a travel document issued by the Government of Kenya to citizens of Kenya who are stranded in a foreign country due to an emergency situation.

This document is used by Kenyan citizens to travel back home or transit through other countries.  

The Emergency Travel Document also serves as proof that the holder is a citizen of Kenya and will be allowed to enter the country on arrival. 

The Emergency Travel Document can be issued at various Kenyan diplomatic missions abroad, or it can be applied for online.

It is important to note that an Emergency Travel Document does not guarantee entry into any country, and holders must still meet all entry requirements of the destination country.

2. Certificate of Identity and Nationality

A Certificate of Identity and Nationality is a document issued to a person other than a citizen of Kenya who cannot obtain a national passport or travel document from the country of citizenship for the purpose of traveling outside Kenya.

A Certificate of Identity and Nationality is valid for travel to all countries stated therein and is valid for a period not exceeding two years from the date of issue.

3. Temporary Permit

A Kenyan Temporary Permit is a document issued to a Kenyan citizen who intends to travel within the East African Community (EAC) countries or another foreign country that might be stated and who wishes to stay in the country for a period of up to one year.

The Kenyan Temporary Permit allows foreign nationals to engage in activities such as business, study, and tourism without having to obtain a visa.

It is important for foreigners travelling to Kenya to understand the process of applying for and obtaining a Temporary Permit before they enter the country.

4. Refugee Travel Document

Refugee Travel Document is a document issued subject to the provisions of the Refugee Act, 2006, (provisions for the recognition, protection, and management of refugees and for connected purposes’ in Kenya) and any other Humanitarian Convention.

The Travel document is valid for travel to all countries except the country of the holder‟s nationality and is valid for a period of five years.
