1. Who Can Apply for a Child Passport?

To apply for a child passport, you must be one of the following:-

  • One of the child’s parents (if you are not separated or divorced).
  • The parent who has custody of the child (if you are separated or divorced) with the correct documentation, including all documents related to the child’s custody.
  • The child’s legal guardian, with the correct documentation, including all legal documents proving your legal guardianship of the child.

All parents or legal guardians should sign the application form.

2. Who Qualifies

  1. A child whose parent (s) are Kenyan citizens.
  2. Persons under 18 years.

3. What You Need To Know Before You Apply

  • Manual applications are not accepted.
  • The child must be accompanied by the parents or legal guardians when submitting the passport application form to the immigration officer.
  • Processing fees are non-refundable.
  • The passport application is done online on the eCitizen Portal https://www.ecitizen.go.ke/
  • Use parents’ or guardians’ eCitizen account to apply for the child’s passport.
  • Applicants must book an appointment online and appear in person for biometrics and digital photo capture.
  • Must bring a copy of the same documents and the original at the time of submission.

4. What are the Requirements for a Kenyan Child's Passport?

  • Original and a copy of the Kenyan birth certificate of the child/adoption certificate.
  • Original and copy of Kenya national identity card for both parents / legal guardian presenting the child.
  • Copies of parents’ Kenya passports (both parents) if available.
  • Parent’s marriage certificate (if available).
  • Copies of the father’s / mother’s Kenyan birth certificate.
  • Parents or legal guardians written consent.
  • Additional documentary proof of Kenya citizenship may be required if necessary.
  • Three recent passport-size of child photographs.

5. Kenyan child Passport Processing Time

It should take at least 10-20 working days to get the passport.

It may take longer if more information is required or the application hasn’t been filled out correctly.

7. How Long is a Kenyan Child's Passport Valid for?

A Kenyan child's passport is valid for 5 years from the date of issue.

8. How to Apply for Kenyan Child Passport

  1. A parent should create an account on the eCitizen Portal https://www.ecitizen.go.ke/ to apply the passport on behalf of the child.
  2. Sign in with the account you just created.
  3. Once logged in to the eCitizen Portal, Click Directorate of Immigration Services (New Applications).
  4. Fill in the Kenya Passport Application Form 19.
  5. Upload scanned required documents.
  6. Pay for it online, through mobile money, credit cards, debit cards, or online banking.
  7. Print the pre-filled application form, sign and date it, then add any other documents and photographs needed and return it for processing.
  8. Print 3 copies of the payment invoice receipts and accompany them together with the rest of the documents and physically submit them to the immigration offices.

9. Submission

  • Book an appointment for Biometrics and digital photo capture.
  • The parent/guardian must appear in person with the child to submit the application form to the Immigration offices in Nairobi or a Kenyan diplomatic mission abroad in the country of origin.
  • An eCitizen pre-filled passport application form and three invoices.
  • Original birth certificate and one photocopy of each required document.
